Product description
High-pressure (closed) headbox runs with an air cushion and with rectifier rolls. It is used particularly on paper machines intended for a wide assortment of papers with diverse substances, i.e. with different flow rates and consistencies. Headbox provides uniform distribution of paper stock on a PM longitudinal wire.
Design
The headbox is made of stainless steel. Its inside surfaces, coming in contact with the stock, are electrochemically polished with surface roughness RA = 0,2. The stock distribution over the total headbox length is based on distribution tubes and two rectifier rolls inside the headbox. It is possible to change the speed of these rolls continuously in order to keep circumferential speed corresponding with the speed in the intermediate zone. There is a rotary antifoam and rinsing shower tube usually installed inside the headbox. The headbox stock supply itself is provided through its expansion chamber or diffuser plate.
Material
Except of stands made of steel St 37, galvanized outwardly and cast-iron basement rails the entire headbox is made of stainless steel 1.4404 or 1.4435. Inside surfaces coming in contact with the stock are electrochemically polished.
Main parts

- distributor (manifold) (1)
- own headbox (2)
- rectifier rolls with drive (3)
- front part control (4)
- top lip regulation - mechanical, automatic (5)
- position indicators
- level and pressure sensor
- antifoam shower tube (6)
Top lip regulation
The headbox precise design and machining of the top lip enable its adjustability in two directions, i.e. upwards and downwards in the range of 0 - 65 mm. The bottom output edge can be slipped out in the range of 0 ± 20 mm. The lip itself provides certain vertical flexibility which allows fine profile adjustment. The top parts of the top lip spindles are equipped with worm gears with micrometric indicators that can be pre-set with individual accuracy of 0,01 mm.
Machine design and work safety are in compliance with EU standards.
Advantages
- faster and more precise control
- possibility of corrections in close profile range through slice profiles changes
- possible regulation of output lip slipping out during operation
- provided protection against lip bending
- automatic blockage of output slice of the lip
- thermatrone bars controlled by microprocessor or linear stepping motors in dependence on slice profile measurements in each microactuator
- possible installation in all hitherto existing PM
- interconnection through link to control system of paper web profile
- simple operation and easy maintenance
- minimum spare parts
Accessories
- headbox stands
- front service bridge or front and back service bridge incl. ladders
- air pump
- distribution piping; supply piping
- basement rails
- regulating valve
- format guides
Delivery scope
- complete machine according to main parts description
- accessories optionally
Stock input regulation
- provided with two different systems running simultaneously. The first circuit keeps the headbox stock level constant. The other circuit regulates the stock flow speed in the headbox output part (see headbox instrumentation).

Automatic control system of output slice profile
Thermatrone bars are installed between the upper part of the top lip and the spindles or linear stepping motors are mounted on the upper part of spindles enabling a fine adjustment of the top lip. By means of an adequate program it is possible to control the cross profile automatically. In comparison with the manual operation this automation can reduces substance variations in the cross profile by 50 %.
